My whole life I have been passionate about the world of jewelry and gemstones, and am so happy to be able to share that experience with others! I was lucky enough to work full time in several fine jewelry stores for over a decade, while studying for and receiving my Graduate Gemologist Diploma in 2011 from the Gemological Institute of America and later Bench Jeweler Comprehensive and Stone Setting through New Approach School for Jewelers. My home studio was then opened full time by 2016, doing fine jewelry repairs for local stores and by private appointment.
I really enjoy repairing a much-loved jewelry item, honestly more than designing new pieces! There’s a challenge in figuring out just how I’m going to fix something and make it look as close to new as possible, followed by the satisfaction of how great it looks after and a thrilled customer! Jewelry can have such emotional and sentimental value- from replacing a missing stone in Mom’s ring, to sizing and rebuilding the prongs on Grandma’s old engagement ring to be passed down to another generation.
Collecting and restoring vintage and antique jewelry are also a passion of mine. I love scouring antique stores and auctions for unique vintage pieces, and though I often find it hard to let go, it's a wonderful feeling to meet other collectors and experience their joy at finding the perfect piece to round out their collection!
In my spare time after repairs are done, I create my own jewelry in sterling silver, using Fordite that I cut and polish myself and many other local Michigan stones or unusual gemstones that call out to me. Most of the stones featured in my designs are found through gem and mineral shows, specialized rock shops, or are purchased right from the gem cutter (including fellow members of our local Traverse City rock and mineral club). Each piece of beach glass in my designs was collected by me on the shores of Lake Superior. My jewelry can currently be viewed in person at Gold and Jaye Jewelry in downtown Suttons Bay, Michigan.
